NAME
empupgrd - upgrades the databases created by the earlier release of
Empress to be at least compatible to Version 8.62.
SYNOPSIS
empupgrd [-f] database
DESCRIPTION
Empupgrd enbles Empress Version 8.62 to access databases that are cre-
ated with the earlier release of Empress. This command will not enable
the new features of the Version 8.62. It simply makes the databases
compatible to allow Version 8.62 Empress to access the data. In order
to use the new features, you need to use the command empcnvt.
Once the database is upgraded, only Empress Version 8.62 can access the
database. You are recommanded to back up the database prior executing
this command.
-f force mode. Do it without prompting user. You must ensure no one
is accessing the database.

DIAGNOSTICS
Error diagnostics are printed if no database is specified or if the
database is not in the old EMPRESS version format.

NOTES
If the upgrade fails for any reason, the database will be in unstable
state. The database must be BACKED UP before running this upgrade
utility.
WARNINGS:
Before running this utility, the user must do the following:
Back up the database before upgrading it since the database
will be modified in the upgrade process.
Disable the recovery log by editing the tabzero of the
database. After the upgrade, the user can create a new
recovery log file and enable the recovery log again.
Disable the audit trail by editing the tabzero of the
database. After the upgrade, the user can create a new audit
trail file and enable the audit trail again.
Resolve all transactions on the database.
Must ensure no one is accessing the database.
