CHAPTER 5: Connectivity (ODBC) Server Administration



5.1 Introduction

This chapter will covers the administration of Connectivity (ODBC) Server. This includes explanations about the followings:



5.2 Empress Server Administration Utility

Empress Server Administration Utility is called empsvadm. The usage of this utility is to start, stop and administrate Empress Servers. The complete usage of this utility is explained in: [Empress Server Administration Utility]

The name of an Empress Server must be specified for any execution of empsvadm. The general usage of this utility is:


    empsvadm servername command 

Where:

1. servername is the name of the Empress Server. The default server name is set in $EMPRESSPATH/config/netserver.cfg file by NAME. For a Replication Master Server the default servername is emprepsv, and for ODBC (Connectivity) Server the default servername is empodbcsv.

5.3 The Empress Password File

Empress Server Password File is used to define the login name and password for Empress Connectivity (ODBC) Server. It also defines the access control list for each login. The utility that maintains password files is emppassword and is explained in [Password File Utility].



5.4 Empress Server Log File

Empress Server Log File is created on the start-up of Empress Server in order to keep the history of the operations performed by Empress Server, and the history of the client requests being made to an Empress Server. Empress Server Log Analyzer Utility empsvlogstat is used to analyze and display data from the Empress Server Log File. The usage of this utility is explained in [Empress Server Log Analyzer Utility].



5.5 Empress Connectivity (ODBC) Server Admin Utility for Windows

Empress Connectivity (ODBC) Server Admin Utility can be start from start menu of Windows task bar. This graphic utility will help Connectivity (ODBC) Server Administrator to configure, start, stop and manage Empress Connectivity (ODBC) Server.
